Today we’re not gonna talk about the kids, we’re not gonna talk about our husbands, we’re not gonna talk about the household, the pets or anything in between. Today I wanna talk to you about… well, you and self-care. Self-care for moms is so important, but it’s one of the easiest things to push aside if we get busy. Neglecting yourself is all too easy when you spend so much time taking care of everyone else.
This is why I want you to take a moment and just ask yourself:
What does self-care mean to you?
When was the last time you did something for yourself just because you wanted to?
Now, what are you gonna do to make self-care a priority?
Let’s start by finishing this post and incorporating these tips into your everyday life. Make some adjustments if you have to, just start today. It only takes a little more time and effort but soon you’ll start to feel happier, a little less anxious, and a little more stress-free.
What is self-care exactly?
Self-care is something you do for yourself to take care of your mental, emotional, and physical health. Even though it seems very simple, it’s something moms very often overlook. Good self-care improves your mood and reduces anxiety. It’s key to a good relationship with yourself and others.
Now that we have an idea of what self-care acually is let talk about what you can do to take better care of yourself today.
This one is probably the easiest tips I have for you. Just knock something off of your to-do list. If it’s not that important or it’s something that can wait, ax it! Give yourself an extra half hour or so to relax.
Epsom Salt Bath
One of my new favorites! Epsom salt baths are a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Other than relaxation there are so many other benefits to taking Epsom salt baths such as pain relief. Epsom salt greatly reduces body aches and pains, skin irritation and inflammation, sore feet, stiff muscles and much more.
light a few candles and let the scent carry you away. Where ever you want to go. I love scented candles, I have one in nearly every room in my home.
Read A Book
Reading a good book is another way to calm yourself at night after everything is done and the kids are in bed. I’m currently looking for the next good book to get lost in. If you have any suggestions drop them in the comments for me 🙂
Pick a space you like to relax in and go to town. I know if my house feels cluttered, I feel anxious and I won’t be able to concentrate on anything which leads to an unproductive day and I can not have that!
Guess what? Napping is not only for your baby and your grandma. Taking a nap is a good way to recharge for the rest of the day. I started taking naps with my son awhile ago. I don’t get one every day unfortunately but when I do I wake up ready to tackle the rest of the day.
Ahhhh shopping, I heart you! Buy yourself something nice every now and then, I’m not saying go crazy but you’ve earned the right to splurge on yourself without feeling guilty about it.
This the favorite part of my night! When I’m in the shower I use Aveeno clear complexion cleansing pads on my face. I love this stuff! You can pick some up at your local drug store or Walmart, I just order it from amazon. I follow up with Hey Honey eye cream, Vitamin C facial serum, and Clean And Clear moisturizer. Something as simple as taking better care of my skin regularly makes me feel better and more relaxed before bedtime.
Writing is an awesome way to get out pent up feelings and emotions or just jot down thoughts and ideas you had throughout the day. For me writing it kinda therapeutic. If you’ve had trouble expressing yourself writing could be a great outlet for you. I also love collecting cute little notebooks and pens.
This one can be great for your overall health. Doing yoga can improve flexibility, strength, and posture. I really enjoy doing yoga because it’s great for loosening stiff muscles, my body feels aahhmazing when I’m done.
Take A Walk
Get some exercise and peace of mind at the same time. Take a walk around your neighborhood or a park to clear your mind, gather your thoughts, enjoy nature or just get an hour or so to yourself.
Listen To Music
Nothing can put you in a mood like the right song! Create a playlist… or several to suit whatever mood you might be in. I have playlists for cleaning, driving, dancing, relaxing, meditation and so on. I could continue but you get what saying!
Take Yourself Out
Reconnect with yourself. Get a nice hotel room for a night, you don’t have to go far to have a mini staycation. Order room service and pamper yourself. You can do your usual night routine or nothing at all but enjoy your own company, a few glasses of wine and king size bed all to yourself.
Pick a day in the week where you can sleep in. Work out an arrangement with your husband so he knows in advance that Sundays (or whatever day works for your family) will be your day each week to get a few extra hours of sleep.
Soak Your Feet
A footbath is always soothing. Soaking your feet in warm water makes you feel like all of your problems are literally melting away. You could use a plain tub and add some Epsom salt and essential oils or you get to buy an actual foot spa and really be in heaven.
Unplug From Social Media
I think it’s safe to say at this point we all know social media can be downright exhausting. Taking a break now and then can be good for your mental health. A digital detox can be good for you in many ways. It gives you more time to make personal connections and to just be present in the moment.
These are just some things I like to do for myself. I hope after reading this you choose to take a little extra time to focus on you! Implementing self-care into your daily routine is not only good for you but for the whole family because if mom is a little happier everyone is will be too.
